Qezzy Surveys

What needed to change and why it mattered.

The founder had a clear product vision for a survey and data collection SaaS targeted at Kenyan researchers, NGOs, and government agencies but no technical team to build it.

Existing global tools like SurveyMonkey and Google Forms were poorly optimised for offline data collection in low-connectivity field environments and priced in US dollars, which created friction for Kenyan organisations working in Kenya shillings with local finance teams. The founder had validated demand through conversations with 20 potential customers but needed a working product to convert them. The business model depended on a subscription billing system that could handle KES payments natively, generate KRA-compliant invoices, and manage plan upgrades and downgrades without manual intervention.

What we built and how we approached it.

We built the full product from zero over eight weeks including a drag-and-drop survey builder, an offline-capable mobile data collection app, a real-time analytics dashboard, team management and multi-user collaboration features, and a subscription billing system priced in Kenyan shillings via Pesapal.

The offline sync architecture was the most technically complex part of the build. Field researchers in areas with no connectivity needed to be able to collect survey responses on their phones and have those responses sync automatically when connectivity was restored, with conflict resolution for cases where the same survey had been updated centrally while a field worker was offline. We used a CRDT-based sync strategy that handled this reliably even on 2G connections. The survey builder was built with a real-time collaborative editing model so multiple team members could work on the same survey simultaneously. The billing system handles plan management, proration, automatic invoice generation with KRA PIN fields, and a dunning sequence for failed payments, all without any manual intervention from the Qezzy team.
